The queen of medicinal plants
Learn how to make an aloe vera body lotion
Find out some interesting facts about the desert lily and how you can make your own body lotion using it
Aloe vera grows so well in the Canary Islands that one might think it is native to the region. However, this is not the case, as it most likely originates from north-eastern Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. It has been used for thousands of years and is valued worldwide as a medicinal plant. As well as its medicinal properties, it is its effect on the skin that has made it famous.
Whether for sunburn, insect bites, skin irritation or as a moisturiser, aloe vera is a real all-rounder. Let’s take a look together at where aloe vera grows on La Gomera, how to recognise it, how to look after it properly even in the coldest weather, why it «bleeds» and, above all, how we can use it to make our own hair treatment and body lotion.
This workshop is also suitable for children. Slime fun for the whole family!

We really enjoyed it – even the children did! Now I know how to grow aloe vera at home and use it to look after my skin and hair. An unforgettable experience!

What is the Gomera Rural Life Experience?
It’s an opportunity to experience rural life on La Gomera in an authentic and first-hand way. Gomera Rural Life Experience is an active experience – you are the one who creates, does and experiences something special. I only work with small groups, always responding individually to the participants’ needs. We work with – and not against – nature, and with – and not against – people. We place great importance on mindful communication and the conscious use of resources.
We use our own products and organic produce from the island
We try not to produce any rubbish
We support organic farming and biodiversity
We value traditional craftsmanship and heritage
We cultivate a mindful and appreciative attitude
